Ruby Lord (born 1999) is a British Artist currently studying BA Hons Fine Art: Painting & Printmaking at the Glasgow School of Art. Originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne she undertook a foundation year at the Manchester School of Art before moving to Glasgow, spending a term at OCAD (Toronto, Canada) in 2019.
Working across various mediums her work often unsettles the viewer. Why are we drawn to the very things that repulse us? Raw meat, oozing interiors, stagnant corpses, the deep red hue of blood. Absorbed by the physicality of flesh, she distorts what we perceive as familiar objects and settings into unusual, tempting yet repulsive scenarios. With a particular interest in the contradictory relationship between humans and animals, she investigates blurring this boundary through themes of the grotesque and abject.
