About SaltSpace

SaltSpace was established as a Community Interest Company (CIC) in 2019 to provide a platform for emerging artists across Scotland. The organisation is membership based and as a not for profit organisation, all profits go back into supporting our members. It operates from two premises in Glasgow, one at Dornoch Street, and the other at the Axiom Building. These provide our members  with studios, workshop facilities, a gallery, and more recently a cinema.

The SaltSpace Committee comprises a team of volunteers who ensure the aims and objectives of the SaltSpace manifesto are met. We are seeking applications from our members to volunteer to be a member of the SaltSpace committee. This volunteer role helps to programme, curate and build opportunities for the SaltSpace membership. The committee meets regularly, approximately once a month, or more often if deemed necessary. Meetings have been conducted online since the onset of the Pandemic and it is the intention to continue with this platform for the foreseeable future, although occasional meetings in person will be required where necessary.

As a cooperative we operate on a non-hierarchical structure and favour collaboration to facilitate a supportive and creative working environment to meet, connect and develop. As an artist-run organisation the committee is continually learning new skills alongside supporting and learning from each other and our members. We feel this brings invaluable experience as practising artists. Decision making is a collective process and everyone holds a shared responsibility for the running of SaltSpace which requires focused effort and care to sustain.

This is a great opportunity to build upon the amazing legacy that SaltSpace has established with the possibility to design and create aspects of the programme.

One of our core aims going forward is to address our structure in order to eventually enable serving committee members to be paid within their role. This will better support the work we do and create a fairer, healthier structure. There is some way to go, however, until such time, committee members are remunerated at the Living Wage rate for some of their time spent on SaltSpace activities that directly relate to enhancing the organisation.
