An Dà Shealladh - Open Call

Glasgow has always been a city of seers and dreamers, of industrial pioneers and cultural visionaries who looked beyond the immediate horizon. This year, Saltspace has invited its members to explore An Dà Shealladh - the Gaelic concept of second sight - as both metaphor and method for understanding our city and our community's unique capacity to imagine futures and perceive hidden truths.

Second sight traditionally speaks of the ability to see beyond the veil of ordinary perception, to glimpse what lies beneath surface appearances. In Glasgow, this gift manifests in our ability to transform postindustrial landscapes into cultural quarters, to see potential where others see decay, and to envision community.

Submission Requirements

Please note that we only accept one piece of physical work per member for the Annual Members Show.

Video Work

Members may submit either: two video works, no longer than 10 minutes total, or: one physical work and a video work no longer than 5 minutes. Please write in the description box that the video is for the show reel.

Alternative Images may be uploaded optionally for work which benefits from photographs at different angles (eg.sculpture).

If your work has a moving/interactive element to it, you may want to submit a video in addition to images. Make sure to write in the description that this is a visual aid for curating work and not a video work for the show reel.

Saltspace will take 0% commission on any sales made.

Please write a short artist statement and explanation of how your submitted work relates to our theme of An Dà Shealladh.

I understand that whilst care will be taken to ensure the safety of artworks, Saltspace is not liable for any loss, damage, breakage or theft of artworks. I must secure my own artists' insurance if I wish to protect my artworks.

Get Involved!

The members show will be invigilated by mostly members and the committee to support, we will send out an invigilation timetable closer to the date. This is not mandatory but a big help to us and a great opportunity for you to meet your audience. Please keep this in mind and try to free up some availability during the run of the show if possible.
