Brandon Hendrick (b.1993, New York) is a visual artist currently based in Glasgow. Having previously studied at School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Virginia Commonwealth University, he recieved his MFA from Glasgow School of Art in 2021. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States and the United Kingdom.
Brandon Hendrick’s recent works revolve around photographs taken from his recent travels through Greece and Bulgaria. This is a new focus for the artist, allowing him to concentrate on depicting the natural landscape through color and markmaking. Through an intense focus on color, lighting, and composition these images have a dramatic flare that may seem to recall cinema and photography, but are also unique to painting. They often incorporate other spaces within those depicted on canvas, such as windows, mirrors, televisions or other paintings to create a perpetual sense of escapism. These portals simultaneously create and fracture the notion of a unified experience.
